The Adventures of Captain WOW

01/01/96 First Sunday Fly on the Mall, my maiden flight! I flew the first time, right out of the bag.
09/07/96 I went to Hospital Point in Annapolis today. Minor adjustments were made to my bridle.
09/29/96 Today I flew high above the polo fields of Poolesville MD, during the Polo Classic
Oct 96 Off to SunFest, my first time on the beach! I just loved the sand in Ocean City, and found out that the more wind there is, the better I fly.
10/16-20/96 Head west young Man. Bill Goodwin takes me on a cross country journey to the AKA Convention in California.
12/01/96 Back down to the Mall for the last First Sunday Fly of the year. Yawn... It's time for a long winters nap.
02/09/97 I woke up this morning at the Bill Kocher Memorial Kite Fly, at Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis. What do I like??? Wind!
03/15/97 Montpelier Mansion's Kite Festival in Laurel, MD. The winds were 15-20mph. Unfortunately since the wind chill was in the 20's there was a small turnout.
03/22/97 After the cold last weekend, it's onward and downward to Virginia Beach and Mount Trashmore. Flying on 1000lb test line, I'm at my best in the comfortable 15-20mph winds. I made a good showing. Many thanks to my hosts, Chuck and Betty Roundtree.
03/30/97 Beware of Water! Summit Hall Park, in Gaithersburg, MD. A nice day for a kite fly. The winds were light, but started to pickup. The day's forecast called for Rain and Lightning. I was accompanied by the club's Sutton 252. Janette said "The clouds are moving in, and it looks like rain". Of course, I had a mind of my own and went up anyway. The winds gusted as the front approached and snapped my 500lb test line. Having been up in the air, I was thirsty. So, of course, with only one pond in the entire area, I landed right in the middle of it. Did I sink? No! I changed to "Plan B" and with my 5 foot soccer ball, fully inflated by the 20mph winds and bouncing along, pulling me across the water I was headed straight for highway 355 (a major highway). Seeing that trouble was in the making I lassoed my bridle around the underbrush and waited to be rescued.
04/05/97 The 31st Annual Smithsonian Kite Festival. A great day to look down over the festival grounds. There were so many things going on in the air at once! I even saw a Peter Lynn Giant Green Octopus (a Tako Tako), quite a few Sutton 252's, and, a special treat for me, one of my cousins in his black and white striped Soccer Referees outfit! We flew side by side for a while and surveyed the competition and demo fields. I even managed to get a bit of a tan on the side while watching the Rokkaku battle.
04/06/97 On the road again, this time I'm heading south with Chris Shultz to Myrtle Beach. When I get back it's off to the beach in Ocean City for the MIKF.
More to Come...
